Canada Geese

January 22, 2013

Flocks of Canada geese return home in March… flying up the Saint John River… a migration route.  And each year they land at the Gagetown wharf… seems that they use the wharf as a landmark.

And the Canada geese stay here for about a month… feeding in the spring ponds of Gagetown Island.

Some flocks of Canada geese now stay here for the winter… no longer migrate… since the big storm at sea in early December 2010.  Many had to turn back and spent their first winter here.  Flocks of geese were seen flying upriver North… not south.

Flocks of ducks and small birds also now stay here for the winter.
